GOLD PANNING SUPPLIES I have a limited number of black plastic gold pans, in 10.5" and 14" sizes. $1.50 for the smaller size, $2.25 for the larger size. To go along with those, I have suction tweezers. These are great for pulling up the tiny pieces of gold from the silt and water in the pan. $.75 each. I also have a number of glass vials to put the gold in, with corked tops. $1 each And to round it all off, I have four 2# bags of gold concentrate (gold mixed into dirt from the mine, ready to pan out). There IS gold in each bag (I checked myself!). The amount may vary. $25 each. If you decide you want a complete kit (pan, gold concentrate, tweezers and glass vial), the panning kit will run you $27.50 for the small pan, $28 for the large pan.
If you want all the panning supplies, let me know and I will give you a price based on what I have at the time (in case anything has sold already). It would be easy to set up a little panning business for the tourists - you just need some tubs of water and a place to set it up. In Fairbanks this is a really popular tourist attraction.
How To Pan For Gold The main thing you need to remember is that gold is heavy. The concept of panning is to swirl out the lighter sand and rocks, leaving the gold at the very bottom of the pan. Put a small amount of your dirt into the gold pan. Add water (it's good to use a tub of water so you can scoop up water and swirl it back into your tub - if any gold swirls out, it lands in the tub where you can re-pan it). With the riffles on the pan farthest away from you, tilt the pan slightly down on the ripple side and move it in a circular motion. Keep the pan angled slightly to allow the sand and dirt to slip off the edge as the water swirls around. Watch the lower ripple areas for the first sigh of yellow gold. If you see it appear and move up the ripples, wash all the dirt back down into the bottom of the pan and start again. Keep washing through the dirt until the sane and rocks are gone and you can clearly see the flakes of gold. Gather gold carefully by hand or with regular or suction tweezers. Gold looks great displayed in a glass vial. It's always best to re-pan the dirt from your tub as some gold tends to sneak by!
